Timer and word count goals
Set a writing sprint with the timer and a word goal for the session, and keep an eye on both while you write.
Two small tools in the file drawer help you write in sessions: a timer for sprints and a word count goal for the day.
Open the file drawer and use the icons on its far right: the tag is Tags, the stopwatch is the Timer and # is the Word Count Goal.
The timer
- Click + to add five minutes at a time (and − to take them away).
- Click play to start. Click again to pause; the circular arrow resets.
- Click the eye to show the timer's progress as a bar on the drawer handle, so you can close the drawer and still see it.
When time's up, the drawer handle flashes.
Word count goal
- Type a number in Enter word goal and click Set.
- Write. The goal counts the words you add in text files and manuscripts during this session, and the bar fills as you go.
- Use the button beside the goal to show your progress in the header while you write, and the reset button to start over.
The session's count resets when you close Studio or the browser tab.
The word count
Every text file and manuscript shows its total at the bottom right; select text to count just that. Hide it with Word Count in the gear menu. Outline rows linked to chapters show each chapter's count, and the mobile file menu shows the count too.
