Toolbox

Small tools that add to what your BYOK can do.

Pick a tool for the job in front of you. Each one is a small file you copy onto the BYOK's card. Then Ctrl+T and its letter runs it. Ctrl+T on its own, with a pause, shows the whole list.

Focus

The rest of the page disappears so you can write one line at a time. Press Escape when you are done, and it lands in your file.

Ctrl+Tthenf

Expander

Give a name, a place, or a phrase you type often a short form. Type that short form, press Tab, and the long version appears. Type xx then Tab to add or look up shortcuts.

Studio Captures

Turn writing you already have into a Studio capture (a card, a comment, a task list) without typing the marks yourself. It can also check your file before you sync.

Ctrl+Tthens

Studio Outline

Build an outline by typing the items. The tool writes the marks Studio needs, so you never have to remember ^ or ---.

Ctrl+Ttheno

Cheat sheet

Hotkeys and Studio marks, on the BYOK. Open it when you cannot remember which key jumps to the end of the file, or whether it is ^ or ^^.

Ctrl+Tthenh

Pep talk

A hundred quotes from writers about the work: starting, sticking with it, getting it wrong first. One at a time, at random, when the page is winning.

Ctrl+Tthenq

Notes

Save a line about a character, a fact, a decision. Open the list later and drop it back into your writing, forty pages on.

Ctrl+Tthenn

Session goal

Counts the words you write this sitting, not the whole file. Set a target, and it tells you when you hit it. Type WC to peek, GOAL then a number to set the target.

Screenplay assistant

Press Tab to finish a character name, a place, or a heading. It learns as you write, so the next time you type the start of a name, Tab does the rest.

Spelling

Walks through the misspellings you always make, one word at a time. You say yes or no. It is your own list of habits, not a spell checker.

Ctrl+Tthenz

Written a tool other people might want? . We are collecting them.

Adding a tool to your BYOK

  1. 1Download

Get the tool from its page. First time, take the second file too if there is one. That file holds your shortcuts, notes, or a word list.

  2. 2Put it on the BYOK's card

Copy the files into the Scripts folder on the BYOK's card. USB or the card itself. Either works.

  3. 3Restart, then Ctrl+T

Tools are found when the BYOK starts. Press Ctrl+T to see it in the list.
