Get it on your BYOK

  1. 1Download both files, the first time.
  2. 2Put them in the Scripts folder on the BYOK's card.
  3. 3Restart the BYOK, then press Ctrl+T.

Already using this tool? Keep your notes.dat. It holds what you have saved.

The data file is plain text. If you are comfortable editing files on a computer, that is often faster than doing it on the BYOK.

How to use it

What your character remembers, when you can't. Save a line about someone, and pull it back up forty pages later.

Saving a note

Select the text you want to keep (the sentence where you decided Marlowe limps, say), then Ctrl+T, n. The list opens with + Save at the top. Choose it.

The first line of what you selected becomes the note's name in the list. To give a note its own name, select two lines:

Limps on the left since Cairo. Will not say why.

Reading a note back

Ctrl+T, n with nothing selected. Pick a note from the list. It opens full screen, wrapped, with Up and Down to scroll if it's long.

  • Enter puts the note into your writing at the cursor.
  • d then y deletes it. n keeps it.
  • Escape goes back to the list.
Good to know
  • Up to 30 notes.
  • Notes are saved on the BYOK's card. You can edit that file on a computer if you prefer.
  • If something is selected when you insert a note, the note replaces it, the same as typing would.
What it can touch

A tool can only do what is listed here. Nothing else. This one can:

  • Read the document: Read your file and what you have selected
  • Change the document: Insert or replace text in your writing
  • Read what it has saved: Read its own notes or shortcuts
  • Save for next time: Remember notes, shortcuts, or a count
  • Show a message: Put a one-line message on screen
  • Show a list: Ask you to pick from a list
  • Take over the screen: Only for tools you run when you ask
