Session goal

Counts the words you write this sitting, not the whole file. Set a target, and it tells you when you hit it. Type WC to peek, GOAL then a number to set the target.

Switch on once, stays on

Press Ctrl+T, pause for the list, arrow to it, then Space to switch it on. Needs a file open.

Full steps, including how to open it on the BYOK

How to use it

Counts the words you write this sitting, and tells you when you hit your target. Switch it on in the toolbox and leave it on.

How it counts

Every word you finish adds one. Backspace doesn't subtract. It's counting what you've typed this sitting, not the file's total. The status bar already shows that.

Commands

Type one of these words in capitals, then a space. The word disappears from your page and does its job.

WC shows the count. GOAL 2000 sets a target. RESET starts the sitting over.

TypeWhat happens
WCShows your count, and the goal: 135 / 500
GOAL then a number, then a spaceSets the target. GOAL 2000
RESETCount goes back to zero. The goal stays

Lowercase goal or reset in a sentence is just a word. Only the capitals are commands.

The alert

When your count reaches the goal, one message: Goal met. Then it stays quiet until you RESET or set a new GOAL.

Good to know
  • Your count and goal stay after you turn the BYOK off. Type RESET when you start a new sitting.
  • A goal of 0 means count only. No target, no alert.
  • After GOAL, the next word must be the number. Anything else leaves the goal unchanged.
  • It only watches words, so it can stay on alongside the Expander or the Screenplay assistant.
What it can touch

A tool can only do what is listed here. Nothing else. This one can:

  • Change the document: Insert or replace text in your writing
  • Read what it has saved: Read its own notes or shortcuts
  • Save for next time: Remember notes, shortcuts, or a count
  • Show a message: Put a one-line message on screen
